It's Halloween on Diggnation! Stories include Pilot to Shoot Down UFO, Fake Cop Busted, Awkward Wall Design, Giant Spider Eating Bird, Heads in Broccoli.
Happy Halloween! Kevin and Alex are apparently too shy to go all out with the costumes and do the same as last year -- headwear -- wearing leopard and tiger print headwear.
Before getting into the show, we discuss a little about the economic climate in late 2008 and how it has recently affected Revision3 and how we will continue to thrive.

Michelob
Over the past several episodes, we've been drinking the beers from the Michelob craft beer sampler pack. The Amber Bock, the Marzen, the Irish Red, the Porter, and the Pale Ale. We kicked it off with a tour at the michelob brewing company where they taught us all about craft beer making --- and i think more importantly all about the beer itself, how to serve it in the right glass, and how to drink it. When you buy the sampler pack it comes with this cool sheet telling you all about the different beers.
Make sure you vote above on your favorite of the beers!
Dolby
We've been working with Dolby and learning about all their technologies for years. In fact, we shot episode 14 and 163 at Dolby Labs in-house studio.
One thing we always talk about with the Dolby folks is the role that great sound plays in entertainment. According to Craig at Dolby, with HDTV you see the rain. With a great sound system, you reach for your umbrella. But it can be confusing knowing just what to buy, but like everything Dolby, they have a solution.
Dolby prepared a great brochure that's available free as a download. Just go to www.dolby.com/hdguide to get the guide as a PDF.
We have tons of friends and family always asking for advice. It's here. Info on the digital TV transition, a glossary of terms. The things to consider like what is the best HD programming source -- cable, satellite or over-the-air -- even remembering what cables to get! This is cool -- they have a shopping list so you know what to think about. Great episode.
In response to a comment earlier about Diggnation is getting lame.
I have watched all the 175 episodes in the last month and you can easily tell it has changed over time.
But even at the start you had the odd show that was not on par with the rest. Apart from the adverts/sponsors taking up more time in the show and having less stories reviewed (which I think is a good thing) the show is pretty good. As with any show (tv series, podcast, etc) you have your ups and downs.
Plus them being drunk in a show always makes it more entertaining.

Yeh, you're supposed to add water, sometimes I do, sometimes I put my own liquids in. Found them in my local grocery store (ralphs) in the fridge section where I normally find yakisoba, but the Saporro brand threw me. Also, it says 'ichiban' on it, so I thought maybe they were beer flavoured noodles.

"The are fairly wet in the pack, hence the vacuum seal and expiration. Don't really need to add water, a dash of oil and stir-fry them. Veggies if you want. Yeh, the flavourings is just a lil bag of granulated soup mix. There's also a lil bag of dried seaweed. I was just googling to see if I could find a picture of them, but found something even better !
"
The ones I buy are wet and vacuum packed but the directions still say to add water. Still sounds like the same thing though, just a different brand. Where did you find them?

"Is the flavor a powder? Do you cook the noodles in shallow water in a frying pan? If so then I buy that out here all the time, cheap, easy, and quite good. Never seen it made by Sapporo though...
I actually miss American junk food. Sad, I know."

Yeh, the noodles are fresh and you add the flavour when you cook them. The noodles are vacuum sealed. What I do like about Japanese food is the way meats and veggies are cooked, just don't like the raw eel type foods etc. Japan has good candy too.

"I was close.
Yeh, spent 3-4 years in Yokota Air Force Base, mid-late 70's. Suprisingly, I'm not into sushi, or attracted to asian women, but love Japanese culture, and love me some street corner yakisoba. I was really surprised to see the Sapporo brand on a package of yakisoba here in los angeles, but it said it was Ichiban on the pack, so I enjoyed it. Expires in about 3 days though, if you don't cook it."
Living in Japan does not mean it'll make you like sushi and Japanese women, you're not alone on that. I don't like sushi and I'm not into asian women, not that I don't like them either though (In fact I dated a couple asian girls out here). I'll be returning to the states in the coming months, going to miss good yakisoba. Wait the yakisoba you found expires? So is it fresh?

I don't know where you'd find Asahi in your area, but I don't know your area. It's definitely better than Sapporro....actually, it's a little better that Kirin as well, but those two are malty lagers compared to Asahi. Asahi manages to be vrisp and dry, go down like water, but still have a very full taste.
"
I have Sapporo occasionally, it comes in other varieties that are worth checking out, 'Gold' I think is one. The Sapporo I mentioned in the other post, yakisoba, are noodles made by Sapporo. They were good !

I don't know any other Asian beers off the top of my head, but I do love Sake !!
I had a 26 hr plane ride from Australia to England via Japan on Japan Air Lines and sat two rows in front of the smoking section. Not a good idea, because the Japanese like to smoke. I gave up and ended up hanging out in the empty seats at the back of the plane smoking and drinking with people, like it was a nightclub or something. I met the band Asia and they offered me a job, then I sat next to a Japanese guy who produced a famous gameshow in Tokyo and he also gave me a job. He asked for one of my roll your own cigs and in return asked, "you, like, sake?", I'd never had it. 20 mins later, he and I were singing and hugging. He collected Jaguars and had 7 of them. Sadly, I don't have any cool stories from the overnight stay in Japan, because I only had 3000 yen and departure tax was 2000 yen. I bought Pringles, nuts and Juicy Fruit for the remaining 1000 and watched tv in my room all night.

"Frankie The Waffle said simply, 'ichiban'. I was just clarifying whether it was Kirin or some other Ichiban. I've drunk millions of Kirins but I really like Asahi when I want crisp and dry.
As far as what it means, I think the Kirin is that dragon animal (dragon/lion/horse) on the label, but I don't know what the animals significane is. And ichi means 1 (something I can actually remember from growing up in Tokyo in the 70's), but I don't know what ban means, so I'm not sure but I guess it has some meaning like, 'the one kirin', maybe ??? 'ban' could mean alot.
I also buy Sapporo yakisoba that has ichiban on it ... having just remembered that has now confused me more as to what could ichiban mean.
"
Ban means number. So ichiban means "Number one". Kirin means giraffe. Now I want yakisoba! You grew up in Tokyo?!
